Avondale United FC - Academy Player Pathway

Academy Overview
At Avondale United FC, our priority is to create a positive, safe, enjoyable and development-focused
environment for every player. We recognise that children develop at different rates physically, socially,
emotionally and technically, and our academy structure is designed to support each player throughout
their individual journey.

Development Philosophy
The Academy Player pathway places long-term player development at the centre of everything we do,
rather than short-term results. We aim to nurture confident, motivated players who enjoy the game, while
continuously developing their technical, tactical and personal skills.
Holistic Player Development
Development within the academy extends beyond football. We actively promote friendship, confidence,
teamwork and enjoyment. Players are encouraged to mix across groups during training, blitzes,
tournaments and social activities to strengthen relationships and enhance their overall experience within
the club.

Organisation of Academy Training Groups
• Academy teams are organised within age categories and based on a combination of ability, stage of
development and individual player needs. We believe players learn best when training alongside
teammates who appropriately challenge and support them.
• Balanced groups ensure players maximise touches on the ball, develop decision-making skills and
build confidence. Movement between groups may take place throughout the season as players
progress and develop. A player’s current group does not define their long-term potential.
• Players experience an environment that supports ongoing development while preparing them for
competitive football. Coaching sessions are designed to be engaging, structured and appropriate to
each stage of development.

Player Pathway
• U6–U9 (Foundation Stage): Focus on fun, fundamental skills and coordination; some soft streaming at
U9 stage where relevant.
• U10–U11 (Development Phase): Structured coaching with some movement between groups.
• U12–U16 (Progression Phase): Progression into competitive football with Structured Grouping,
including participation in CSL and CWSSL leagues.

Commitment
Avondale United AFC is committed to providing an inclusive and supportive academy environment that
develops each player both on and off the pitch, while preparing them for the next stages of their football
journey in a positive and enjoyable setting.
