Wilton win 4-2 in a Penalty shootout
Wilton reached round 3 of the Munster Senior Cup after a penalty shootout on Saturday afternoon. The Dale's were forced to make major changes for this tie and four of our Under 19s doing well in this game with Ross Cunningham making his first start in central defence. The opening goal came on 7 mins when a mixup in the centre of Wilton defence allowed David Hogan to score with an assist from Matthew Mckevitt .
It was 1-1 on on 19 mins when James Sullivan burst through from midfield to find Górdan O'Meara to score with a good strike . On 21 mins David Hogan made it 2-1 when he touched home a cross from Jake O'Callaghan. The Dale keeper Rob Noonan made a terrific double save on 25 mins from Górdan O'Meara.
On 55 mins it was 2-2 when Robbie Wyse touched home at the near post from a corner. Matthew Mckevitt for Avondale and Cian McCarthy for Wilton had chances but were off target. Ben Roche had a great chance for Avondale but Brian Cronin saved his shot from close range.
On 81mins the butt of post saved Avondale from a great shot from distance from O'Meara. Extra time produced end to end attacking play despite players getting tired but no further goals . After a penalty shootout Wilton advanced 4-2.
