MIG Munster Senior CupAvondale United 2     Macroom 1


Avondale advanced to round 2 of the MIG Munster Senior Cup following a very hard fought win over Macroom on Saturday afternoon . The opening half was full of good attacking play from both teams with Macroom very sharp upfront. 


The visitors started brightly and Billy McCarthy in the Dale goal had to produce two good save from Dinneen and then from Juzezak. On 12 mins McKevitt played  David Hogan in on goal  but Caleb Dinneen produced a good save.   Avondale lead on 15 mins against the run of play when Matthew Mckevitt scored from the penalty spot but it only lasted 3 mins when Darren Dinneen scored from the edge of the area with a powerful strike. Both keepers were kept busy in that half with good saves ....


 The second half didn't match the opening half's tempo and Juzezak almost took  advantage of sloppy play early in the half but his effort went narrowly wide. Avondales  Bryan Lyons saw his effort touch over by the Macroom keeper Calem Dinneen on 65 mins. The winning goal came on 76 mins when a corner on the right by Dave O'Leary was chested down by Jake O'Callaghan into the path of Darragh O'Brien who shot through a crowded goal area to the net.. 


No doubt if Macroom play this team and produce performances like this regularly then  they will be in for a good  season ..
