NARROW DEFEAT FOR SENIORS IN CUP FINAL

Avondale United 1 St Marys 2

June 12th 2017: Two goals and a Man of the Match performance by young Owen Collins gave St Marys victory over Avondale at a very blustery Camden on Saturday. Conditions were extremely difficult for both teams as a very strong wind blew right across the seaside venue and made it difficult for players to adapt.

Both sides came close in the opening minutes with Jamie Murphy bringing a great save from the Mary’s keeper . The opening goal came on 14 minutes when the Dale lost easy possession and a McBride cross from the right held kindly in the wind for the unmarked Collins to shoot past Kelleher at the near post in the Dale goal.

Collins made it 2-0 on 67 minutes when the Saints were awarded a free from the edge of the area and he put his free kick over the wall and into the bottom right hand corner. David Spratt got one back in the 90th minute for the Dales but it was a case of too little too late .

So another season ends and the Dales know where improvements are needed to challenge next season. Great credit must go to Chris Herlihy and his hard working crew and Andrew Goulding who will still work tirelessly throughout the summer months in order to have Avondale Park in great condition for when our players return in August. Finally it’s been a pleasure for me to do match reports on all our games throughout the season so thank you to all who helped me. The Avondale Twitter and Facebook pages have been reaching enormous views over the last 12 months so thanks to all who have helped make the Avondale social media a truly wonderful success. – Paddy Scannell

FAMILY FUN DAY

May 29th 2017: A great day was had by all at our Family Fun Day at Bessboro on Sunday. This has been a great social event on the club’s calendar over the last 7 years and yesterday was no different. The weather was perfect and a great turnout by parents and players alike made for a great day. Thanks to all the players and parents who supported the club's sponsorship plan. Also a very big Thank You to our supporters: the Barbeque & Refreshments were sponsored by Big Al’s – Ireland’s No. 1 Burger Brand with our shop generously sponsored by Scally's Supervalu.

The Lord Mayor, Des Cahill, kindly helped present medals to all in addition to Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player awards. The Animal Roadshow, sponsored by Dinos, with Boa Constrictor, Madagascan Hedgehog and Tarantula proved irresistible for the brave and entertainment for all. Click on the photos above to enlarge.
