THANKS FOR THE WONDERFUL MEMORIES

Avondale’s very popular Michael Mulconroy has been forced to retire from football due to a serious knee injury. Fondly known as Mucky by all in sports circles he has had great success with St Michaels in gaelic football, Cork City, Cobh Ramblers, and of course Avondale United. Michael joined the Dales at a very young age and worked his way up winning every trophy as well as giving great advice to younger Avondale Teams.

He is a former Irish Universities International and he toured China with the Irish University side in 2001. He started his league career at Cork City but was restricted to 15 first team appearances and he joined Cobh Ramblers on loan from at the end of August 2004. Michael then parted company with the St. Coleman's Park outfit, but re-signed in the July 2007 transfer window and played with them until they were forced out of the league at the end of the 2008 season. After Cobh's demise Michael turned out for UCC in the Munster Senior League before joining up with Avondale United.

On behalf of Avondale United football club we wish you well and its been our privilege to watch you play for our club. Our picture shows Mucky and his parents Michael and Blanch with the MSL Premier League Trophy.

WEEKEND ROUNDUP SEPT 24/25

On Sunday afternoon the Juniors made the long trip west to face Mizen FC in the Munster Junior Cup. They overcame the West Cork side by 6-2 with the goals coming from Michael Harrington (4) and Michael Carroll (2) (pictured above).

The U19 first team advanced to the final of the League Cup with a hard fought win away to Springfield Ramblers on Sunday. The Dales took an early two goal lead through the boot of striker Simon Falvey and the score line stayed this way until the break. 20 minutes into the second half David Hogan almost made it three but he saw his powerful header from Mark Cunningham’s well placed free-kick rebound off the crossbar. Springfield responded immediately by going down the other end and scoring to reduce the gap to one. This set up a tense final 25 minutes but the Dale held on to advance to the final where they face Ballincollig on Sunday October 9th at Turners Cross (kick-off 6pm).

On Sunday morning Avondale U17s continued their good run of form by defeating Blarney United 2-0.

DRESSING ROOM UPGRADE AND ONGOING WORK

Sept 20: Work continues on upgrading the dressing rooms and kitchen area in Avondale Park. A special mention goes to Eoin Kelly, Pat Gosnell and Tony Barrett for their time and effort. Without them it would be difficult to complete and now the dressing room area is really beginning to take shape. Also thanks to the old reliables for their work every Monday repairing the pitch after the weekend games. Feel free to join in if you would like to help these lads. Finally thanks to Andrew Goulding and Barry O’Sullivan for their great work on the ground cutting the pitch and training area and the servicing of the machines.
